The Whitecappers Roast Beef Dinner sold out with patrons enjoying a delicious meal followed by a fun Bingo. Many thanks to Karen Rideout for organizing, Joyce, Velma, and others too numerous to mention for pitching in to help, and all who attended. Our Christmas Dinner on Tuesday December 19 looks to be another sellout so if you want to attend better act fast! Tickets are on sale now at $35 each for a full turkey dinner catered by Chestermere’s own Dunn And Company and entertainment by Silence In Between. Don’t forget the Caroling Lunch as well on Saturday December 16 starting at 11 AM. Chestermere’s premier vocal ensemble, the Chestermere Soundwaves, will be performing holiday favorites. This event is free to Whitecappers members. (Submitted by Peter Tindall)
We are planning to take a trip to Rosebud again this year on December 6th to see this Season's offering of "All is Calm". It's a historical musical about the signing of the truce to end WW1 and the ensemble is an 8 male harmonizing group. It sounds like a beautiful production! The ticket price includes an amazing buffet lunch as well. Tickets cost $77 and as in the past few years we will offer some car pooling or you are free to drive yourselves. Lunch is served from 11:30-1:00 and the show starts at 1:00. There is ample availability right now but we need a commitment as soon as possible to purchase the tickets in advance at this rate. Please sign on in the foyer at the Whitecappers centre. I will place a hold on the tickets based on the numbers signed on by November 17th. You will need to pay for the tickets by November 28 to secure your place. It's always an enjoyable outing that really kick starts the Christmas Season.
If you haven't already, be sure to purchase your annual membership with the CWA. Office hours are from 10AM to 1PM on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Costs for a single membership are $40/year. Prairie Mountain - November 13
Elevation gain: over 700 m.
Length: 4 km. up (4 km return)
It was hard. For some, it was the continuous upward grind, for others it was the descent that killed the knees. Upon gaining the summit, it was extremely windy, making it feel colder than it actually was. But there was exhilaration in the wind and you couldn’t help but be awed by the absolute beauty on top of this mountain. And despite the adversity, it was fun! There was a great sense of accomplishment in being able to summit this small, but mighty mountain that is twice the elevation of Calgary. The views were breathtaking as we looked across to Moose Mountain on one side and the distant skyline of Calgary on the other.
Griffith Woods - October 31
It was easy. There was no upward grind, no descent that killed the knees. We enjoyed a leisurely lunch soaking in the sunshine.
This was a social hike where we caught up with those we hadn't seen in awhile and met some new hikers. We did about 8 k with no significant elevation gain.
